As objectives based wealth advisors we aim to help clients align their money with not just their financial goals, but also with their values. For many of our clients this means Responsible Investing: integrating environmental, social and governance analysis into the investment process and making an impact as owners to engage companies to be better corporate citizens. For others it means striving to make the world a better place through volunteering or philanthropy. For many of our clients' families all of these things are important. And, they are important to us.
Through IPC Cares - Ottawa our objective is to help our clients' families exercise the power they have to make a difference. One of the ways we are doing this is with our WE Schools group, IPC Cares Ottawa Youth in Action, whereby teenagers are identifying their passions, raising awareness about the issues that are important to them, and doing their parts to make the world a better place through ME to WE facilitated activities and events.
For example, this spring IPC Cares Ottawa participated in the ME to WE Walk for Water. I had just returned from a volunteer trip to West Africa where my family and I had the opportunity to visit a remote water well in the bushlands of Senegal and meet with families who travel long distances daily to collect the water they need to live. At our own Ottawa Walk for Water we discussed water sustainability issues and the challenges many people have in accessing clean water. Then we walked together, carrying typical African water carriers to the Rideau River and filled them. We carried the 50 lbs-when-full containers about two kilometers, a typical distance travelled by millions of (mostly) women and girls each day while carrying the very same burden.
Together with our youth we raised over $1300 for WE Charities water projects, enough to change the lives of over 50 people by helping to make clean water more accessible.
